Solymár, village in Hungary
Solymár is a municipality in central Hungary near Budapest, situated between the Buda Hills and Pilis mountains. The village spreads across roughly 1786 hectares with about 10000 residents living in approximately 3700 homes scattered through open countryside and forested slopes.
Solymár was inhabited since prehistoric times and first appears in written records in 1266. After remaining depopulated during Turkish occupation, the village was resettled by German colonists in the 18th century.
The village maintains Swabian traditions that shape daily life and local gatherings throughout the year. Visitors can experience these customs during community festivals and see how residents preserve their heritage through local organizations and celebrations.
The village is easy to navigate on foot, with simple flat streets in the center and walking paths through surrounding forests and hills. Local shops, the post office, and community facilities are conveniently located near the center.
The village name is said to derive from royal falconers who hunted in nearby forests. Archaeological discoveries confirm Roman and Avar settlements once existed at this location in earlier periods.
