Tungsram strand

Tungsram strand is a former bathing facility in Budapest's Újpest district that contained three separate pools designed for different purposes and users. The complex included storage areas and operated as a complete recreational water facility spread across a substantial site.

The facility opened in 1938 with an international swimming competition and water polo match marking its debut. It remained operational for many decades before eventually ceasing operations.

The strand served as a gathering place for employees of the nearby Tungsram factory and their families seeking recreation and leisure time. This role made it an important social hub within the neighborhood where people from different backgrounds shared recreational spaces together.

The facility used groundwater heating to maintain warm water temperatures year-round, making it comfortable for swimming in all seasons. Visitors could easily navigate the grounds and find designated areas for different types of water activities.

The strand sat at a special convergence point where two branches of the Danube River flowed together, creating a distinctive geographic setting. This location made the facility stand out as a unique water-based site within the urban landscape.
