Semmelweis University 1st Department of Internal Medicine

The 1st Department of Internal Medicine at Semmelweis University is a teaching facility in Budapest District VIII that houses specialized departments for endocrinology, gastroenterology, diabetology, nephrology, immunology, and cardiovascular medicine. It contains 133 patient beds and 12 outpatient clinics serving comprehensive medical care and research activities.

The building was constructed between 1908 and 1910 by architects Floris Korb and Kalman Giergl in eclectic style. It emerged as part of Semmelweis University's growth and reflects early 20th-century institutional design in Budapest.

Medical students from across Europe study internal medicine in three languages - Hungarian, English, and German - at this teaching institution. The building serves as a hub for medical education and attracts trainees eager to learn from the university's accomplished faculty.

The independent Oncology Center of Semmelweis University was integrated into the department on January 1, 2020. This merger expanded medical capabilities and created an even more comprehensive specialized facility.
