High-rise, Gyöngyös, Residential high-rise in Gyöngyös, Hungary

The High-rise in Gyöngyös is a 70-metre, twenty-storey (19+1) residential tower on Pesti út, on the outer curve of a bend so that traffic from Hatvan heads almost straight at it. Designed by Dénesi Iván and built by slip-form technology, it stands on the 80-as lakótelep, on the territory of the former Gyöngyöspüspöki village.

Designed by Dénesi Iván, the tower was completed in 1971 using slip-form technology, drawing on experience from Miskolc's 1968 "Húszemeletes". It was one of the first built expressions of Ernő Heim's late-1960s idea of placing tower blocks at visually prominent urban points. The 1975 Szolnok tower was largely a copy of this building.

The building's nickname, OTP tower, links it to the bank that commissioned it, and a residents' community still operates in the block. In 2016 the community marked the 45th anniversary of the handover with an event covered by the city television. The tower was designed by Dénesi Iván.

The tower stands on the outer curve of a bend in Pesti út, the Gyöngyös stretch of main road 3, in the 80-as lakótelep housing estate on the site of the former Gyöngyöspüki village. Approaching from Hatvan or Budapest, the road runs almost straight at the building. It is a private residential block, so visitors view it from the street and the surrounding estate rather than going inside.

The building is a near-complete copy of the Szolnok tower block handed over in 1975, which was built a few floors taller using experience from this one. Its active residents' community marked the 45th anniversary of the handover in 2016, an event covered by the city television.
