Kékes, Mountain summit in Heves County, Hungary

Kékes is Hungary's highest mountain, rising to 1,014 m in the Mátra range of Heves County. Its broad, rounded summit is covered in continuous forest, with a gentle crest line rather than a sharp peak. A tall mast and the Kékestető TV Tower stand at the top, beside a short stone lookout with a crenellated top.

Kékes became Hungary's highest peak following the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, when border changes affected which mountains belonged to the country. This shift in territory made it the nation's dominant geographic summit.

Kékes hosts two main ski pistes: a steeper northern run of 600 m and a gentler southern run of 1,800 m, the longest in Hungary. Since 2001 it has usually been the hardest climb and a summit finish of the Tour de Hongrie, and from 2004 an amateur race, "Kékesre fel!", lets anyone ride the Gyöngyös–Kékestető course.

A paved road connects the summit to the village of Mátraháza, making vehicle access straightforward and convenient. The route is well marked and accessible year-round, though winter weather may occasionally require extra care.

A television tower built in 1981 stands on the summit and functions both as a broadcast facility and as an observation platform for visitors. The structure dominates the hilltop and adds extra height for even wider views.
