Temple in Jerusalem, Historic Temple in Jerusalem
The Temple in Jerusalem was the central sanctuary of ancient Judaism, located on the Temple Mount in the Old City. It served as a place for religious ceremonies, sacrifices, and housing sacred objects like the Ark of the Covenant.
The First Temple was built around the 10th century BCE under King Solomon and served as the center of Jewish life for centuries. After its destruction by the Babylonians, it was rebuilt, until the Romans destroyed it permanently in 70 CE.
Its Western Wall is now a sacred location for Jewish prayer and pilgrimage.
The site is partially accessible to visitors today, though the Temple Mount itself has restrictions and religious protocols. The best starting point for a visit is the area around the Western Wall in the Old City, where archaeological traces and historical explanations help convey what the building once contained.
Considered one of the most important religious sites over millennia.
