Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts, arts high school in Givatayim, Israel
Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts is a secondary school in Givatayim that welcomes students from across the country to study music, dance, theater, film, and visual arts. The institution combines arts education with academic coursework and employs about 120 teachers who are practicing artists themselves.
Founded in 1959 by music teachers from Tel Aviv, the school has a history spanning more than 60 years. During this period, it has trained thousands of young artists, many of whom have achieved recognition in Israel and beyond.
The school is named after Thelma Yellin, a renowned cellist who played an important role in shaping music education in Israel. This naming reflects her lasting influence on artistic development in the country.
The school is centrally located in the Borochov neighborhood of Givatayim and admits students from everywhere in the country, including from cities, suburbs, and rural communities. Throughout the year, the public can attend performances and art festivals that showcase student work.
The school is currently building a digital archive containing photos, videos, and stories from former students and past performances. This project preserves artistic history and makes it accessible for future generations.
