Tiruppur district, Administrative district in Tamil Nadu, India
Tiruppur district is an administrative region in western Tamil Nadu that neighbors Coimbatore, Erode, Karur, and Dindigul districts, with the Western Ghats forming its natural boundary. The landscape includes several river systems and dams that play a central role in supporting agriculture across the region.
The district was established in 2009 as Tamil Nadu's 32nd administrative division, carved out from portions of Coimbatore and Erode districts. This reorganization responded to rapid industrial expansion and the need for better local administration to manage the region's development.
Tamil is spoken everywhere in everyday life, and the region has a long tradition of bringing together people from different backgrounds who maintain their own languages and customs.
Multiple dams throughout the district including Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy provide water for irrigation and regular use across the region. The area is best explored after the monsoon season when the landscape is lush and roads are in good condition.
The textile industry, particularly knitwear production, grew from small beginnings into a major economic driver for the region. Today it is recognized globally for cotton knitwear exports and attracts buyers from around the world.
