Gaya International Airport, International airport in Gaya, India
Gaya International Airport is an international facility in the city of Gaya, located in the state of Bihar. The terminal covers 7,500 square meters and features two passenger boarding bridges, while the apron provides space for five Airbus A320 aircraft.
The facility opened for operations in 2002 under the management of the Airports Authority of India. This opening brought the first direct air connections to the Bihar region.
The facility serves as a gateway for Buddhist pilgrims traveling from many countries to visit nearby temples and monasteries. Many visitors arrive here before continuing their journey to the enlightenment site and surrounding religious centers.
The terminal building separates arriving and departing passengers into sections that can each accommodate 250 travelers. Regular flights connect the facility to Delhi and Kolkata.
A parliamentary committee requested in 2021 that the airport code be changed from GAY to YAG. The international aviation association maintained the original code instead.
