Bhadrachalam, Religious pilgrimage town in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, India.
Bhadrachalam is a pilgrimage town in Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana, spreading along the banks of the Godavari. The center clusters around the temple grounds, with narrow lanes full of shops selling religious items and lodgings for visitors.
In the 17th century, Kancherla Gopanna built the shrine, turning the place into a major religious destination. Since then, devotees from across South India have come here to worship and take part in celebrations.
The name comes from the Bhadra hill on which the shrine was built and which pilgrims see first when arriving. Devotees walk barefoot around the temple complex and take part in rituals performed by priests in traditional clothing.
The town is reached by bus from larger centers like Hyderabad, Khammam and Warangal, and a railway station lies about 40 kilometers away. Visitors arriving during major festivals should book accommodation in advance, as pilgrims arrive in large numbers.
The river serves as a reference point for measuring water levels, with the zero gauge set at about 33 meters above mean sea level. This measurement matters for agriculture and water management in the surrounding area.
