Tumkur district, Administrative district in Karnataka, India
The district spreads across 10,598 square kilometers of land, making it the third largest district in Karnataka with a population of 2,678,980 inhabitants.
The region was governed by the Nidugal Cholas from the 8th to 13th centuries before the British administration established the district in 1832.
The district celebrates regional festivals throughout the year, with Kannada being the primary language spoken by 84 percent of the population.
The district maintains connections to major cities through National Highways NH 48 and NH 73, while also operating regular bus and rail services.
The district earned the name Kalpataru Nadu due to its extensive coconut production and contains the separate Pavagada Taluk region.
