Baramati, Commercial city in Pune district, India.
Baramati is a town in Pune district, western Maharashtra, around one hundred kilometers (sixty miles) southeast of Pune along a tributary of the Bhima River. Streets run through residential neighborhoods, school campuses, and commercial zones, while broad fields of sugarcane and grapevines spread across the surrounding farmland.
A fort dating from 1743 marks the Mughal period and the area's military role. During the twentieth century the town grew as an agricultural and manufacturing center processing sugar and wine.
The residents of Baramati maintain traditional Maharashtrian customs through local festivals, religious ceremonies, and regional cuisine specialties.
Two national highways lead to the town and connect it with larger centers across the region. Bus stations sit near the center and offer links to neighboring towns and villages.
Italian and other European factories produce chocolate and motor scooters here, while the countryside around the town continues to focus on grape and sugarcane farming. The mix of industry and rural tradition shapes the character of the area.
