Nandyal, Administrative town in Rayalaseema region, Andhra Pradesh, India
Nandyal is an administrative town in the Rayalaseema region and serves as the headquarters of its district in Andhra Pradesh. Situated at an elevation of 203 meters, it functions as the central administrative center for the surrounding area.
The town received its first formal structure as a municipality in 1899, then gained full city status in 1991. These two transformations marked important points in the administrative development of the place.
The area is known for nine sacred temples grouped together as Nava Nandi, with the Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple standing out for its notably large Nandi statue. These shrines shape the religious life of people living here and draw pilgrims who come to worship.
The town has a railway station with regular connections and is served by buses from the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Most services and facilities are relatively easy to find since it functions as the administrative center of the region.
Two parallel mountain ranges, Nallamala and Erramala, run through the region and divide it into eastern and western sections with different soil types. This natural division has shaped how the area has been settled and farmed.
