Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple

Sri Ranganathaswamy is a Hindu temple in Mandya district dedicated to the deity Ranganatha and built across several courtyards and connected structures. The design follows the Dravidian style with tall pillared halls, carved stonework, and multiple shrines arranged around a central area.

The shrine was founded during medieval times and grew into a major center of Vaishnavism in the region. Over the centuries different dynasties carried out expansions and renovations.

Worshippers arrive throughout the day to attend prayers while priests chant hymns and present offerings before the shrines. Fresh flowers decorate the sanctuaries and visitors gather in the main hall to witness ceremonies or bring their own gifts.

Visitors should cover shoulders and knees before entering the temple grounds and prepare for warm conditions. Early morning hours or late afternoon are generally less crowded than peak prayer times.

The shrine runs schools and a clinic for the surrounding population and uses donations to support social projects. These facilities sit in adjacent buildings and operate daily for the local community.
