Sankoo

Sankoo is a township set in a bowl-shaped valley where three rivers converge, surrounded by dense plantations of poplars and willows. Located about 42 kilometers from Kargil, the settlement sits within a landscape defined by river channels and vegetation.

In the 16th century, a Buddhist king invited a Muslim scholar from Kashmir to teach here, marking a major religious shift in the region. This encounter transformed the spiritual landscape of the territory.
