Nun, Mountain summit in Sankoo tehsil, India
Nun is a mountain summit in the Suru Valley of Kargil district in Jammu and Kashmir, reaching 7,135 meters above sea level. The peak offers climbers a relatively accessible route compared to neighboring peaks in the region.
The peak was first summited on August 28, 1953 by French, Swiss, Indian, and Sherpa mountaineers. This successful expedition following the western ridge route became a significant milestone in the climbing history of the region.
The mountain expedition connects travelers with local communities in Tangol village, where residents support climbing activities through various support services.
A complete expedition typically takes 38 to 41 days, starting from New Delhi and passing through Leh and Kargil before reaching the base camp at Tangol. Climbers should arrive with solid fitness and experience at high altitudes.
The massif is separated from the neighboring peak Kun by a snowy plateau spanning approximately 4 kilometers. This snow-covered expanse forms one of the most notable geographic features of the entire massif formation.
