Kun Peak, Mountain summit in Sankoo tehsil, India.
Kun Peak is a mountain summit reaching about 7,077 meters (23,218 feet) and forms part of the Nun Kun massif in the western Himalaya. It rises as a distinct peak within this high mountain range in the Ladakh region.
The first recorded ascent was completed by Mario Piacenza in 1913 via the north-east ridge. An Indian Army expedition reached the summit much later in the 20th century.
Stone buildings and prayer flags dot the surroundings, showing how local communities maintain a spiritual bond with these mountains.
Climbers should have experience at elevations above 6,500 meters (21,300 feet) and must monitor weather carefully during their expedition. Proper alpine gear and preparation for harsh mountain conditions are essential.
The summit connects to the nearby Nun Peak through a snow plateau roughly four kilometers long. This natural bridge between the two peaks creates an unusual geographical feature in the region.
