Pinnacle Peak, Mountain summit in Sankoo tehsil, India.
Pinnacle Peak is a mountain summit in the Nun Kun massif located in Ladakh, rising to approximately 6,930 meters. The mountain features intricate ridge systems that divide the Kangriz Glacier into multiple sections.
The peak was first summited in 1906 by American mountaineers Fanny Bullock Workman and William Hunter Workman during their Himalayan exploration. This early ascent drew attention to the mountain for subsequent mountaineering attempts.
The mountain stands as a representation of mountaineering achievement in the Ladakh region, where local communities maintain traditional connections with the surrounding peaks.
Climbers establish a base camp in the Sentik Valley at around 4,600 meters elevation before attempting the West ridge route. The ascent demands experience with snow climbing and proper acclimatization to high altitude.
In August 2022, the Indian Air Force conducted a notable high-altitude rescue operation near the peak. An Italian mountaineer suffering from altitude sickness was successfully evacuated, highlighting the serious hazards of climbing at this elevation.
