Basia block, Administrative subdivision in Gumla district, India
Basia block is an administrative division within Gumla district, covering a rural landscape with around 88 villages spread across its territory. The area is characterized by farmland and small settlements distributed throughout the hilly terrain.
The block was established as a separate administrative unit in 1983 when the area split from Ranchi district. This reorganization was part of the administrative restructuring of Jharkhand.
The population here is predominantly made up of Scheduled Tribes, and Sadri is the language you will hear spoken in the villages and markets. This linguistic and ethnic character shapes the social life and traditions of the communities.
Most people in this area work in agriculture, so it is most active during planting and harvest seasons. Simple roads connect the villages, and basic health facilities are found in several settlements.
The area is marked by flat-topped hills called pat that rise to heights between 750 and 900 meters. These geological features shape the landscape and influence how residents use the land for farming.
