The General Post Office building rises three floors high with a central hall topped by a dome on Rajaji Salai at Parry's Corner.
Robert Chisholm designed this Indo-Saracenic structure in 1874, and construction finished in 1884 at a cost of 680,000 Indian rupees.
The post office maintains a philatelic bureau, one of five Indian locations authorized to sell United Nations postage stamps to collectors.
The facility operates from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM on weekdays and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays, offering speed post and registered mail services.
The structure spans 352 feet in length and 162 feet in width, incorporating black basalt and yellow Kurla stone in its construction.
