Gokarna Math

Gokarna Math is a Hindu monastery situated on the banks of the Kushavati River, featuring shrines with statues of revered deities. The complex includes multiple buildings for residence, prayer, and teaching.

The monastery was founded in 1475 as the first Gaud Saraswat Matha of the Dvaita tradition. It became a significant religious center that shaped the spiritual path of followers for centuries.

The name comes from the sacred site of Gokarna, making it a meaningful spiritual home for the Saraswat community. Visitors can observe how the community gathers to practice traditional teachings and perform daily religious ceremonies.

The site is located along a river valley and is accessible by walking through the local area. Visitors should dress respectfully and observe quiet conduct, as it remains an active place of worship.

When each head of the monastery passes away, their remains receive special treatment and are laid to rest within memorial structures on the grounds. These memorials become permanent places of worship where daily rituals continue in their honor.
