Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Nature conservation center in Ponda, India
Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area with deciduous forests and a zoological park located in Ponda. The site houses Indian bison, sambar deer, Bengal tigers, and various other forest animals in their natural habitats.
The sanctuary was established in 1969 as the first protected area of its kind in Goa. It was created to preserve local animal species and their forest habitats for future generations.
The education center displays exhibits about regional wildlife and conservation methods that protect the forest and its animals. You can see how local species depend on their environment and what threats they face today.
Visit early in the morning when animals are most active and the forest is still cool. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk on paths through the woods and open areas.
The site runs a rehabilitation facility for injured wildlife, including leopards caught in human conflicts. This facility also cares for animals previously used in circus or performance shows that now need rescue and recovery.
