Lal Bangla, Imperial mausoleum in South East Delhi, India

Lal Bangla is an imperial mausoleum complex in South East Delhi containing two main tombs constructed from red sandstone. The structures feature square rooms with rectangular halls arranged on an elevated platform.

The complex was built between 1779 and 1780 and holds the remains of Lal Kunwar, mother of Emperor Shah Alam II, and Begum Jan, his daughter. This construction period falls within the declining years of Mughal imperial power.

The architectural style reflects late Mughal design choices, with squared central chambers, arched roofs, and decorative domes topped with ornamental spires. These distinctive building features define how the complex appears and shapes its visual character.

The mausoleum complex is located within the Delhi Golf Club grounds on Zakir Hussain Road. Access to the site is restricted and managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Beyond the two main tombs, the complex also holds three additional graves belonging to members of Emperor Akbar II's family. A separate mausoleum dedicated to Syed Abid dates to 1626, predating the primary structures by more than a century.
