Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife sanctuary in Nainital district, Uttarakhand, India
Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected reserve located between the Gola and Sharda Rivers, featuring sal forests, grasslands, and varied terrain. The landscape creates different habitats across the area, supporting diverse wildlife in this Terai region.
The sanctuary was established in 2012 and was proposed by national conservation authorities as a potential third tiger reserve for Uttarakhand. This designation reflected the region's importance for tiger protection in India.
Two forest rest houses, Aonlakhera and Jaulasal, provide opportunities for visitors to experience the natural environment of the Terai Arc landscape.
The sanctuary can be reached from Kathgodam Railway Station or Pantnagar Airport, with local transport services available from both points. Two forest rest houses, Aonlakhera and Jaulasal, provide lodging for visitors who wish to stay and explore the reserve.
A tree believed to be around 200 years old stands within the sanctuary, known locally as the King of Trees and recognized for its remarkable size. This ancient specimen serves as a visible reminder of the old-growth forests that once covered the region.
