Mudaliarkuppam boat house, Water sports complex in Chengalpattu, India.
Mudaliarkuppam boat house is a boathouse on the backwaters of Odiyur lake in the Chengalpattu district of India. The facility covers several water zones and offers motorboat rides, water scooters, kayaking, and speed boating, with separate launch areas for each activity.
The boat house opened in 2007 as the first of eight regional facilities in the area to offer water scooter rides. It was set up as part of a broader effort to develop coastal tourism along this stretch of the Tamil Nadu shore.
The boat house sits near the fishing village of Mudaliarkuppam, which gives the place its name. Visitors can see small fishing boats on the water and get a sense of how coastal communities along this shore have long made their living.
The site is easy to reach by road from Chennai and is best visited outside the midday heat. Water levels and tides can affect which activities are available on a given day, so it is worth checking conditions before heading out on the water.
The lagoon surrounding the site turns into a winter resting spot for large flocks of migrating birds, including flamingos and sea eagles. The cooler months are the best time to spot species that do not stay here year-round.
