Peechi Dam, Irrigation dam near Thrissur, India

Peechi Dam is a concrete straight gravity dam across the Manalipuzha, a tributary of the Karuvannur River, in Pananchery panchayat, Thrissur district. It creates a reservoir that reaches the Vaniyampuzha district border and supplies irrigation water to about 17,555 hectares in Mukundapuram, Thalappilly, Thrissur and Chavakkad taluks.

E. Ikkanda Warrier, first Prime Minister of the independent state of Kochi, promoted the dam against much local opposition and brought a retired chief engineer from Andhra Pradesh to build it. Governor Burgula Ramakrishna Rao inaugurated it on 4 October 1957 as a major irrigation project; construction was completed in 1959.

The reservoir's banks form part of the Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1958 and covering 125 square kilometres, where elephants are often seen. The Kerala Forest Research Institute stands at Kannara nearby. The dam is also a local landmark for the schools in Peechi village, including the Government Higher Secondary School.

The site is open during daylight hours with several viewing points along the water's edge. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as there are walking paths around the reservoir that can be explored on foot.

The dam's water is released through two separate branches: one feeds irrigation canals without interruption, the other drives the KSEB small hydroelectric project, which is designed to generate 33 lakh units a year. If power generation fails, irrigation continues.
