Paramekkavu

Paramekkavu is a Hindu temple in Thrissur dedicated to Devi Vaishnavy, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. Located near Vadakkumnathan Temple, it serves as a significant shrine within this important temple district.

The temple became one of two principal participants in Thrissur Pooram following organizational reforms by Sakthan Thampuran. These changes established its role as a major religious center in the region.

The temple plays a central role in the annual Thrissur Pooram processions, where it participates with elaborately decorated elephants and musicians performing traditional rituals. This festival participation represents an important expression of devotion and community for worshippers.

The temple is situated roughly 2 kilometers from Thrissur Railway Station and approximately 50 kilometers from Cochin International Airport. Several hotels and basic facilities for visitors are available nearby.

The temple operates an educational institution called Paramekkavu Vidya Mandir on MLA Road that serves local students. This school demonstrates how the sanctuary extends its community support beyond religious ceremonies.
