St George's College, Mussoorie, school in Mussoorie, India
St. George's College is an all-boys school in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, situated on about 400 acres of hillside property in the Himalayan foothills. The campus features classical buildings, sports fields, a tennis court, swimming pool, auditorium, and a museum displaying photographs, instruments, and records spanning over 150 years.
The school was founded in 1853 by the Capuchin Fathers to provide education to Catholic students. In 1893 the Patrician Brothers from Ireland took over its management, and in 1948 it merged with Manor House School to become the present institution.
The school is named after Saint George, whose legend appears on the school emblem. Students here are called Manorites and wear uniforms, organized into four competing houses that participate in sports, debates, and other events throughout the year.
The campus is located in the quiet village of Barlowganj and sits about 50 kilometers from Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun by car. Since this is an active school, visits are best arranged during holidays or by prior arrangement to avoid disrupting daily activities.
The campus features a clock tower with a timepiece imported from England in 1936 that chimes every 15 minutes, originally designed to keep wildlife away from nearby forests. The school grounds have also served as a filming location for television productions, including a series about writer Ruskin Bond.
