Gorakhpur Junction railway station, Transportation hub in Gorakhpur, India
Gorakhpur Junction is a railway station in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, serving as a major hub for North Eastern Railway operations. The facility includes ten platforms handling a high volume of trains daily between eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other parts of northern India.
The station opened in 1930 and grew over the decades into one of the largest transport hubs in northern India. It later became the headquarters of North Eastern Railway, further increasing the importance of the site for regional mobility.
The station serves mainly travelers heading to sacred sites across the region, with many devotees changing trains or arriving here throughout the day. It links religious centers such as Gorakhnath Temple with other parts of the country, shaping the rhythm of pilgrimage traffic.
Travelers will find ticket counters, waiting areas, food stalls, and restrooms distributed throughout the building. Parking is available near the main entrance, and platforms are accessible via stairs and some ramps.
One of the platforms extends over a length of more than 1,300 meters (4,300 feet), making it the second longest railway platform in the world. This unusual length allows especially long trains to be handled without additional stopping maneuvers.
