Mangyu temple complex

The Mangyu temple complex consists of two main temples, Sakyamuni and Vairocana, with chapels housing Maitreya images on both sides.

The monastery emerged in the late 12th to early 13th century, during a period of substantial Buddhist architectural development in the Ladakh region.

The temple walls display numerous painted murals and sculptures depicting Buddhist deities, representing the religious artistry of medieval Ladakh.

Located 70 kilometers from Leh, the monastery receives twice-weekly bus service and offers basic accommodations through a local guesthouse with three rooms.

The temples contain early period painted chortens, including a specific structure known as the four image Chorten containing four distinct sculptures.
