Diskit Monastery is a gompa in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, India, rising from a hillside above the Shyok River. The complex consists of several prayer rooms and temples connected by narrow staircases and passages.
Changzem Tserab Zangpo founded the monastery during the 14th century, bringing Buddhism to this remote area. The monastic community belongs to the Gelugpa school, which formed in Tibet during the 15th century.
The name Diskit comes from the Tibetan word „Degyed
The approach crosses Khardung La pass, where travelers must present a permit before descending into the valley. Access is easiest from June through September, when mountain roads remain open and free of snow.
A large Maitreya statue above the monastery faces across the river toward the Pakistani border. The figure was consecrated in 2010 and remains visible from many points across the valley.
