Madhav Institute of Technology and Science, Institute in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India
Madhav Institute of Technology and Science is an engineering college in Gwalior, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The campus brings together teaching buildings, workshops, a library, student hostels, and sports facilities across a single grounds.
The institute was founded in 1957 at the initiative of Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia, with the foundation stone laid by then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1956. Over the following decades, postgraduate programs, research options, and new fields such as computer science and architecture were added to the original engineering courses.
The college takes its name from Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia, connecting it to the royal history of Gwalior. Students gather regularly for events like Dysigno, a festival where teams from different schools present their technical and design projects to each other.
The campus sits close to the center of Gwalior and can be reached by public transport or auto-rickshaw. Because the grounds cover several buildings and zones, it helps to plan enough time to walk between the different areas.
In 2024, the institute received the status of Deemed University, which means it can now award its own degrees and design its own programs without needing external approval. This recognition is relatively rare for an engineering college in India and gives the institution a level of independence that most similar schools do not have.
