Jain temple, Alleppey

The Jain temple in Alleppey comprises two shrines built from Rajasthan stone and white marble, decorated with many frescos and marble sculptures. The structure shows elaborate details that appear throughout each room.

The temple began when forty-two Jain families from Gujarat moved to Alleppey to participate in economic development under Dewan Raja Kesavadas's rule. This relocation marked a turning point for the Jain presence in the region.

The central shrine displays statues of three Tirthankaras, which creates an important place for Jain worshippers to pray. Over time, this shrine has become the spiritual center for the local Jain community.

This temple opens twice daily for visitors with set times for prayer and viewing. A nearby pilgrim house offers lodging, making it convenient to spend several hours here.

This temple was built without using iron materials and follows strict traditional Jain building methods in all its elements. This handcraft technique makes it a rare example of authentic Jain architecture outside India's core regions.
