Shrikhand Mahadev, Hindu pilgrimage site in Kullu district, India
Shrikhand Mahadev is a shrine located at approximately 5,700 meters above sea level with a natural Shiva Linga formation at its summit. The site consists of a mountain pilgrimage route beginning from Jaon and passing through several base camps.
According to legend, demon king Ravana performed penance at this location and offered his head to Lord Shiva as a gift for immortality. This religious belief formed the foundation for the holiness attributed to this place over time.
This shrine forms part of the Panch Kailash, five sacred Himalayan peaks where devotees believe Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati dwell. Pilgrims visit to honor this divine presence and seek spiritual blessings at the summit.
The route is accessible annually from July to August when conditions are most favorable. Trekkers should prepare for high-altitude terrain with cold weather and potentially snow-covered sections.
Along the route to the summit, visitors encounter natural lakes and flower gardens that hold religious meaning in local tradition. These landscape features provide rest stops during the demanding ascent.
