Motijheel Jama Mosque

Motijheel Jama Mosque is a mosque in Jiaganj Azimganj featuring three hemispherical domes and four corner minarets topped with bulbous cupolas. The rectangular structure is supported by arches and displays classical Indo-Islamic architectural design.

The structure was built between 1749 and 1750 by Nawab Nawaei Muhammad Khan, as documented in a Persian inscription on its wall. Its construction reflects the period when Nawab rulers held power in the region.

The mosque continues to serve as a place of Islamic worship where the local community gathers for daily prayers. It remains a spiritual center that shapes the religious life of the surrounding area.

The structure sits on the western shore of Motijhil lake and is easy to locate. Visitors should check prayer times before visiting to find the best moment for exploring the site.

The burial ground within the compound holds the graves of Ghaseti Begum and Nawab Nawaei Muhammad Khan. These tombs make the grounds an important site for remembering local history.
