Tomb of Azimunnisha Begum

Tomb of Azimunnisha Begum, Monument of National Importance in Murshidabad district, India.

The Tomb of Azimunnisha Begum is a stone structure featuring arched openings and carved details set within a garden area. The site includes underground burial chambers that reflect Mughal building practices.

Built in 1757, this tomb contains the remains of Azimunnisha Begum, daughter of Murshid Quli Khan. She was married to Shuja-ud-Din Muhammad Khan, who served as Bengal's second Nawab.

The burial site reflects Mughal architectural traditions adapted for the local region. Visitors can observe how building styles from different periods influenced the overall design.

The site is accessible by public transport and located near other historical monuments in the Murshidabad district. Planning ahead allows you to visit multiple sites in a single day.

Azimunnisha Begum commissioned a mosque in 1734 that was later destroyed by river erosion. Only fragments of this earlier structure remain visible near the burial site today.
