Char Bangla Temples

The Char Bangla Temples feature four individual Shiva Mandirs with terracotta panels depicting mythological scenes and daily life activities on their walls.

Rani Bhabani of Natore commissioned the construction of these temples in 1760, during a period when the Nawabs of Bengal governed the region.

The northern temple contains terracotta facades and incised plaster decorations that represent both religious stories and scenes from local community activities.

The temple complex stands at coordinates 24.251348 latitude and 88.243683 longitude in the Murshidabad-Jiaganj development block of West Bengal.

The shifting course of the Ganges River now flows near these temples, creating environmental challenges for their preservation and structural integrity.
