Ranipet district, Administrative district in Tamil Nadu, India
Ranipet district is an administrative region in Tamil Nadu bordered by Vellore, Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Thiruvallur. The Palar River winds through the towns of Ranipet and Arcot, shaping the landscape and serving as a geographical landmark.
The district was created in November 2019 when Vellore was divided to form a separate administrative entity. This reorganization reflected efforts to improve governance and local administration in the region.
The people here speak Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu in daily life, with Hindu traditions shaping the local customs. Smaller Muslim and Christian communities contribute to the social fabric of the district.
The district contains several industrial parks within the SIPCOT complex, with many leather manufacturing facilities operating there. The industrial zones are relatively easy to navigate, though visitors should expect a working landscape focused on production and commerce.
EID Parry operates one of South India's largest ceramic plants here, also producing fertilizers and confectionery items. The facility has been a major employer for decades and represents a significant part of the region's industrial heritage.
