Jain Sculpture And Inscription

The Vallimalai cave complex contains three chambers with detailed stone carvings of Jain Tirthankaras and divine figures across its forty-foot expanse.

During the late Maurya period, monks from Bihar established residence in these natural caverns, which later saw additions under Ganga King Rachamalla II in 870 CE.

The caves display intricate sculptures of Ambika in sukhasana position and Padmavati with four hands holding ceremonial objects, representing Jain religious artistry.

The Archaeological Survey of India maintains these caves, which feature smooth polished stone beds and chambers measuring forty by twenty feet.

Five distinct inscriptions mark these caves, including one from the eighth century that mentions Devasena of the Bana kingdom and his Jain monks Bhavanandin and Aryanandin.
