The street follows the path of the ancient Decumanus Maximus, the main thoroughfare of Greek Neapolis founded in the sixth century BCE and later maintained under Roman rule.
The street hosts important cultural sites including the Pio Monte della Misericordia church, which houses Caravaggio's painting titled The Seven Works of Mercy, and the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore.
Visitors can reach Via dei Tribunali by taking metro line 2 to Cavour station, then walking approximately nine minutes along via Foria and turning onto via Duomo.
The street is home to famous traditional pizzerias such as Sorbillo, L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele, and Di Matteo, which are recognized worldwide for their authentic Neapolitan pizza.
