Stettiner Hütte, Mountain shelter in Moos in Passeier, Italy
Stettiner Hütte is a mountain hut in Moos in Passeier located at 2,875 meters near Passo Gelato. This five-story building provides sleeping space for 76 guests and includes a dining area that accommodates around 92 people.
The hut was built in 1895 by the Stettin section of DÖAV and underwent multiple reconstructions over time. Following avalanche damage in 1931 and again in 2014, the structure was restored and updated.
The structure served as an Italian military border control post from 1965 to 1972 during South Tyrol independence movements.
The hut opens from July through September and is accessible via two main routes requiring roughly a four-hour hike. Visitors can approach from either Val di Fosse or Plan.
The building has an unusual ship-bow design built at an acute angle to minimize avalanche impact. This distinctive shape became fully apparent when the renovation was completed in 2022.
