San Francesco di Stampace, Romanesque church in Stampace district, Cagliari, Italy

San Francesco di Stampace was a Romanesque church in the Stampace district of Cagliari, built with a Latin cross layout and a single nave. The structure combined Romanesque and Catalan Gothic architectural elements in its design.

Franciscan monks founded this place of worship in 1275 as a religious center for the community. It stood for 600 years until 1875, when municipal authorities ordered its demolition and ended that chapter.

The surviving cloister showcases the craftsmanship typical of religious complexes from this period. Visitors can still observe the architectural details that defined monastic spaces of its era.

The site is located along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II between Via Angioy and Via Sassari in central Cagliari. The area maintains its historical footprint and is easy to find in the city center.

Emperor Charles V attended mass here in 1535 during an important visit. The pulpit associated with this event now resides in the Church of San Michele.
