Monte Chersogno

Monte Chersogno, Mountain summit in Piedmont, Italy

Monte Chersogno is a summit in the Chambeyron Massif with steep slopes and a notable east-facing wall of quartzite rock. The peak sits within a broader alpine complex containing multiple surrounding summits and ridges.

The first recorded ascent took place in 1877 when engineer Pio Paganini from the Military Geographical Institute reached the summit with his surveying team. This early exploration helped establish the cartographic record of the area.

The mountain appears in Italian cinema and holds significance for local communities as part of their alpine environment. Its form shapes how residents experience the surrounding landscape and marks their sense of place.

The climb requires proper hiking boots and experience as the route is demanding with steep sections. Start early in the day and monitor weather conditions closely, as alpine conditions can change quickly.

The peak rises in a region containing dozens of other major summits and offers views of distant alpine chains from its ridge. Its position and name serve as a key landmark for mountaineers navigating this stretch of the range.
