Parco Archeologico dei Tauriani, Archaeological park in Palmi, Italy.
Parco Archeologico dei Tauriani is an archaeological park on a plateau above a cliff in Palmi, containing ancient structures, mosaics, and remains from multiple periods. The excavations reveal settlement traces from different eras, including residential quarters, sanctuaries, and a circular building that once served for gatherings.
Excavations revealed settlements dating from around 2000 BCE, including structures built by the Bruttians and later Roman modifications to the site. The location was used and reshaped by different cultures over many centuries.
The park holds the Crypt of San Fantino, an early place of Christian worship in Calabria, along with Roman sanctuaries featuring decorated living spaces. Visitors can see traces of these sacred spaces and understand how different communities used this location.
The park can only be visited by prior arrangement, which needs to be organized by phone. It is wise to book in advance, as visits are guided and spaces may be limited.
Six contemporary marble sculptures from 2012 stand within the archaeological site, creating a dialogue between ancient and modern art. This installation demonstrates how ancient places continue to serve as venues for artistic expression.
