Torre Saracena

Torre Saracena is a watchtower standing on a coastal cliff in Palmi, positioned within an archaeological park. The structure features thick defensive walls and viewing points that show its importance for coastal protection.

The tower was built in 1565 as part of a coastal defense system against sea-based attacks. It was constructed during a period when this coast faced constant threats and many such towers were built to protect communities.

Visitors need to arrange access in advance, as entry is not always available. Wear sturdy shoes since the paths around the tower and cliff areas have uneven ground.

The site displays six white marble sculptures created during a 2012 art symposium. These modern works stand alongside the historic structure, creating a striking mix of contemporary and ancient elements.
