Rifugio Fonda-Savio, Mountain hut in Auronzo di Cadore, Italy.
Rifugio Fonda-Savio is a mountain hut set in the Cadini di Misurina group in the Dolomites, at around 2,367 feet (2,367 m) above sea level. It offers sleeping spaces, meals, and a base for hikers and climbers exploring the rocky terrain around it.
The hut was built in 1963 and named after three brothers from the area who died in World War II. Their memory lives on in this landscape that they knew well as mountaineers.
The name of the hut honors three brothers from the region who were closely tied to these mountains. Visitors today still experience the simple, welcoming routine of Alpine hut life that has stayed much the same across generations.
The hut is reached by marked trails from the Misurina area, which takes several hours on foot. Weather at this height can change fast, so solid footwear and a waterproof layer are strongly advised.
The hut takes part in a project that connects alpine protected areas with modern technology, which is unusual for such a remote shelter. This keeps it well-equipped even within a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
