Grattacielo La Meridiana, Residential tower in San Vitale district, Bologna, Italy.

Grattacielo La Meridiana is a residential tower with 22 floors and a height of about 70 meters, distinguished by its rectangular form and hybrid construction of reinforced concrete and brick. The building contains 84 residential units served by two elevators.

ACLI Casa built this structure between 1958 and 1960 as part of a larger housing development to address post-war accommodation shortages. The project represented one of the first attempts to create affordable multi-family housing in Bologna.

The building's hybrid construction method of reinforced concrete and brick differs from typical modern skyscrapers, reflecting how architects sought practical solutions for housing. This material combination was unconventional for residential buildings in Italy at the time and still shapes how the facade looks today.

This building stands in the San Vitale neighborhood and continues to serve as affordable housing for residents. It is easy to spot from outside and forms a clear vertical landmark in the area.

Until towers were built in the Fiera district during the 1970s, this structure stood as the only tall building marking Bologna's outer skyline. This role made it an unexpected landmark for the expanding city.
