Aldrovandi Villa Borghese, building in Rome, Italy
Aldrovandi Villa Borghese is a hotel housed in a late 19th-century baroque palace situated directly beside the famous Villa Borghese gardens. The property features 92 rooms and 16 suites, two restaurants, two bars, an outdoor swimming pool, and private gardens surrounding the building.
Built as a noble residence in the late 19th century, the palace later served as an institute for young women from aristocratic families run by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. It was converted into a hotel in 1981 and has since joined The Leading Hotels of the World group.
The hotel's name combines the nearby Villa Borghese gardens with Via Ulisse Aldrovandi, honoring a 16th-century Italian naturalist. Today it serves as a meeting point where Rome's aristocratic past and modern hospitality intersect for visitors from around the world.
The hotel sits at the edge of Villa Borghese gardens with direct access to the grounds, making it ideal for visitors exploring Rome on foot. Bicycles are provided free of charge, and the location allows easy walking access to major attractions like the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo without needing a car.
One of the two restaurants, Oliver Glowig, earned two Michelin stars in 2011, highlighting the exceptional quality of cuisine offered at the property. The hotel also opened a new spa in 2014 in partnership with the renowned cosmetics brand La Mer.
