Tennōji-ku, Administrative ward in southern Osaka, Japan

Tennoji ward encompasses a dense urban district featuring the Abeno Harukas skyscraper, multiple railway stations, and numerous retail establishments within its boundaries.

The district takes its name from Shitennoji Temple, constructed in 593 CE under Prince Shotoku's direction, marking the first Buddhist temple built by the Japanese government.

The Shinsekai entertainment district within Tennoji presents traditional Osakan food specialties and contains the Tsutenkaku Tower, which stands as a local architectural symbol.

The area contains four major transportation hubs, including JR Tennoji Station and Kintetsu Osaka Abenobashi Station, connecting travelers to Nara, Kansai Airport, and central Osaka.

The Tennoji Zoo, established in 1915, maintains a collection of red pandas, lions, and penguins within its 11-hectare grounds near Tennoji Park.
