Inuyama, Historical castle town in Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Inuyama extends along the banks of the Kiso River, featuring traditional wooden buildings and narrow streets that lead to the hilltop castle.

Built in 1537, Inuyama Castle stands as one of the twelve original Japanese castles, maintaining its wooden structure through centuries of wars and natural events.

The spring Inuyama Festival displays massive wooden floats pulled through streets while performers execute traditional puppet shows from elevated stages.

Visitors reach Inuyama in 30 minutes by train from Nagoya Station on the Meitetsu Inuyama Line, with most attractions within walking distance of the station.

From June to October, fishermen practice ukai on the Kiso River, using trained cormorants to catch fish in a method dating back 1300 years.
